Yeah.......I am just standing around waiting for a phone to ring.........any phone.........and I answer it and the person on the other end of the line says "You have just won a million dollars!".

Hmmmm.

I have a better chance of getting hit by a rickshaw in the meat section of the grocery store.

Oh well.........life marches on.....ugh.....or should I say "forward".

Needless to say, I have been very busy and probably worn myself down to being overly vulnerable to an assortment of chaos of differing varieties........one of which is, I suppose, the flu or something similar. So for the past week I have been rather miserable.

Another issue has been my little buddy Chico, the family dog. He has not been well at all and I have never seen him like this before. So far it seems like he is recuperating well but he isn't completely normal.......yet. The details are painful for me to write about so let's just leave it at that.

Hmmmmm.....maybe Chico has what I have now. As I think about it, the other day I was holding Chico in my arms and he was distressed and I petted his head and told him "Just give me whatever you have and let me deal with it"........hmmmm.......maybe he did just that.

Through it all, I still have managed to crank out some more painted crab shells. Some new ones and more of the popular ones.

Hand Painted Crab Shells Part 3

Ho!.....Ho!......Ho!
As I write this it is after midnight......uh.......gee it's Tuesday already.........arrrggghhhh.......so much to do and such little time. My plate is full this week.......crabs.....crabs.....and more crabs........all of the prep work on the latest batch of crab shells..........it has been seemingly endless. I started cleaning up the shells Monday morning and while about fifty or so were left to dry, I headed off to deal with the grandchildren. I started cleaning up another batch of shells when I got home around 7:30 pm. Let's see......I lost count.......that was another good 40 to 50 more shells now set out to dry. I still have another large bag of shells to be cleaned sitting in the fridge.....my guess is there is another 60 or so to go. If only I had ten hands........oh well.

The crab shells have been a hit. I figured that I would show some pictures of some that have been going fast.......as soon as I make them.......they sell and I find myself making more of them.
Personally, I prefer doing each crab shell as one of a kind. That way, it doesn't become boring or laborious for me. The idea was not to "work hard"........and yet, at least for the Christmas holiday shopping period.........it has become quite difficult to keep up with the demands. The Steelers crab shell is very popular.......apparently there are alot of Steelers fans in Baltimore.

Of course the Redskins are popular too.........after all, the Redskins play in Maryland!........this painted crab shell stuff IS a Maryland thing you know.

I do not have all of the teams, but I do take requests......if you want one, I will probably make one for you..........note: I do need some time though. Usually a one week wait.

Yep, I sold out of the Utz girl.............but hopefully I will have time to make a few more before the week ends.

Here is something you won't see just anywhere......needless to say......it sold right away.

I do special requests like this one.......the Greek flag with the family surname in Greek.

I simply don't quite get it but there are some folks that wanted Boston Red Sox crab shells.

I can understand putting things related to Maryland on a crab shell. This one is also very popular.

And no......it is not a sticker........hon.

I only made one of these and I sold it this past weekend. The "golden eggs" of Dundalk!

Well.......that's about it for now........time for some shut-eye and then back at it again tomorrow.

Hand Painted Crab Shells Part Two

Are you ready for Christmas? Not me.........I have been extremely busy...........alot of stuff happening and has happened since the last post.

First off, the entire family converged upon Tennessee for Thanksgiving with my Mom and my sisters and their offspring. It just so happened that my birthday was the day before Thanksgiving and we celebrated that as well. Everything was wonderful and good and just cannot express how important for me that we were all together for those all too brief few days. Considering that Noodle and her husband brought my grandson with them........driving all the way from Leander, Texas......and my other daughter Mrs Moneypenny brought her entourage from Maryland...........and both of my boys rode with me and the wife from Maryland to Tennessee.......well.......let's just say that I am not only grateful, but thankful that everyone arrived safely and unscathed.....hehehe........seriously........

The Friday after Thanksgiving, me and Supernurse took a flight from Nashville to Mexico.
That's right.......Mexico.........third year in a row.........Grand Palladium Riviera Maya again.........absolutely wonderful place.........and we stayed for 12 days before returning home to Baltimore.............Whew!...........yeah, I am tired.............so bear with me on posting about the trip as I usually have in the past. Hopefully I will get to that very soon.

Upon our return home, the proverbial shit has hit the fan regarding the crab shells at the flea market. Christmas shopping has kicked in and shoppers have practically wiped out my supply of hand painted crab shells. This is a good thing and I am not complaining.........but this has also meant that I have been in a mad scramble to replace the sold shells with more shells.......which also means that I have been very busy........painting......painting......and painting crab shells. I do not want to disappoint any customers. Somehow, I have managed to keep going at it.

In regards to the crab shells. there are those that I make that I consider "must have"......and the rest are those that are specially made either from requests, pre-orders, or simply because someone challenged me or dared me to make one or two.

One of those "challenges" was the Harley-Davidson logo. There are many bikers and other assorted Harley lovers that roam the flea market. More than once, someone would approach my table and say "You don't have one with Harley on it?"......"I would buy one if you did."........well...........yes.........I DO have them now and that particular challenge has been met.

One of the "must haves" incorporates Natty Boh with the Maryland flag......very popular.

Another special request was this one. A couple wanted it for their little daughter's bedroom.

In addition to hand painted crab shells, I also make Redneck Wine Glasses. These are selling fast and I had to make 40 of them this week alone.

Football fans are not left out............even Packers fans roam around the flea market. Packers, Steelers, Redskins, Eagles, Seahawks........Giants.......even da Bears!

A really nice dude from West Virginia came by and asked me if I could paint a trout on a crab shell for him...........he was very happy.

Another request was from a firefighter from Baltimore City............he was also very happy with his crab shell.

Oh yeah........did I mention football fans?............Patriots!

This is yet another request........"I want one with the Colts on it".......well........to me, there is only ONE Colts that is worthy of my bother.......and that is the BALTIMORE Colts.....hehehe.

Hand Painted Crab Shells

Yes it is definately the end of the world........no doubt about it......lots of stuff has been happening............in one week's time I have had the pleasure of experiencing my first "substantial" earthquake and Hurricane Irene.........and I still managed to get myself down to the Northpoint Plaza Flea Market and hawk my hand painted crab shell ornaments. Imagine that.

First, I again apologize for my lack of posting here on the blog.......I have been very busy.......really.........no kidding..........I have been helping my daughter, Miss Moneypenny, with various assorted things just about every day........grandfatherly type chores....housesitting.....kidsitting......and while at her house I have been busy also with prepping these crab shells so I can sell them. Lot's of work and my time has been consumed in biblical proportions.

Okay......so the weekdays are booked solid........and that leaves me with Saturdays and Sundays to hawk my wares at the flea market. What I sell is not really a flea market item..........it is a craft item.......art..........and not a dollar item. These pieces of art are made by me and for the most part, are unique and some are even one of a kind. I put alot of effort and time into making the ornaments and I have established a spot at the flea market to make them available to anyone who wants one.....or two........or even three.....four...or five of them.

Business has started out really slow.......some days I hadn't even sold one.......but determination is embedded in me and I stand my ground and plant my seeds..........in time, hopefully soon, it will all be worthwhile. Timing is everything.........right? Leave it to me to start a business venture when the economy has tanked and people can barely have enough money to buy the things they actually need. And leave it to me that I decided to manufacture something that is, at best, a novelty and not a necessity.

One month into this venture and things are picking up and word is getting out. More and more customers with each weekend that comes. Oddly, my busiest day so far, was during the hurricane.....go figure.

Each crab shell gets cleaned thoroughly, disinfected, and primed before painting.

This is one of my latest original creations and perfect for Christmas. While some folks might think that these painted crab shells are just used as a Christmas ornament........this is not the case. You can display them anywhere in your home or office throughout the year.

It's a Maryland thing! And nothing says it better than a painted crab shell.

Time has a way of sneaking up on you. Worse yet........because time has a way of sneaking up on you, you might not realize that your health also can be declining in the process without you really noticing........that is, until you feel like death warmed over. That pretty much sums it up for me lately. Time has been flying by........no stunner there.......and in the past year I have been feeling terrible........worse and worse........tired.....wasted......in a funk........and it had gotten worse and worse and ultimately bad enough that I went to a hospital emergency room to get checked out. Being a person with coronary heart disease, I had to get the heart checked out.......just in case this was a precursor to a heart attack. I was feeling like I had been poisoned......deathly ill......the feeling of impending doom.......I had no explanation for it.

The doctors admitted me to the hospital for some testing and observation. The blood tests all came back good. Urine test......good. EKG.........perfect. Blood pressure......good. Heart rate?...........well...........it was 40..........and for me....that is way too low. They performed a nuclear stress test on me.......I survived it and the results showed nothing alarming. Such a mystery. The cardiologist informed me that he felt that it was not necessary at this time to do an angioplasty....why take the risk?..........and that he thought that one of two things (or both) could be the problem. Could be some sort of virus that will have to run its course on its own........or I am overmedicated. Overmedicated!.........that could explain everything...........about 7 months or more ago, my regular doctor had increased (doubled) my dosage of Metoprolol. The cardiologist at the hospital decided to decrease by half the Metoprolol and the Altace that I take. So there I am.........It has been two days and so far I haven't felt deathly ill........maybe a little tired still........and not as out of breath. Time will tell.....but I think the problem is solved.

Tests......monitors........IV's..........stabbed in the arms four times............not particularly a comfortable experience..........but the ultimate insult to injury is what occurs right before leaving the hospital.......

As it was......for whatever reason in the 24 hours I was in the hospital........I ended up with no less than SIXTEEN of those round sticky wire connectors stuck to my chest..........a set for the heart monitor........a set for the EKG in the ER.......and yet another set used during the stress test........and it was left for me to remove............and the problem was.......I have hair on my chest.

Jesus God Almighty!

My son almost shit himself laughing as he watched me yank each of the sixteen torture pads. I yelled and winced and hollered and nearly shit my own self silly.

So I ask........is this really a good way to release a heart patient from the hospital?

Brathanki

Okay.....okay........what is Brathanki?

Well.......Brathanki is the name of a Polish band. For some reason I have become smitten with this group. The music is unusual......a combination of traditional Polish folk, rock, pop, and all sorts of stuff blended together into a complex earful of talented musicians. A while back, I was wondering about Poland and what they might be listening to on the radio........and this is when I discovered Brathanki. The group has, over the past few years, gone through some changes. The original female singer sought a solo career and they replaced her with two female singers for a while. Since then, they have replaced those two with another lone female singer.

Such changes in lead vocals in any band in the rest of the world would lead to the demise of a group. In Poland, it is almost a tradition it seems. The band Varius Manx has gone through several changes of lead female vocalists and yet has found success with each and every one of them.

So why do I bother mentioning Brathanki here? Well, first, I really enjoy their music......I cannot explain why........it simply strikes a chord with me. And since that is the case, I enjoy sharing good things with those who otherwise might never find themselves with the occasion to even hear such stuff. Therefore, I am providing a few videos of Brathanki from a "live" Polish TV program. These are not recent and show the band with their original lead vocalist. And yes.......it is all sung in Polish and I generally have no idea what it is that they are singing about. For me, it is not about the words anyway......it is all about the delivery......and this group delivers well.

Furthermore, it is also a week following the celebration of two birthdays over the weekend for two people very near and dear to me. My "little" sister EBCBEBR and my granddaughter Princess Fartknocker are both a year older now..........Happy Birthday! This is for them as I know they both will enjoy and appreciate it. Now if I can get EBCBEBR to play the flute as fast as in one of the videos.....well...........yes......she is a flutist(sp?).....hehehe.

What In Hell Is Going On?

I suppose I won't actually be finding out the answer to that question this year............The town of Hell is located on Grand Cayman Island.........and we originally had plans to vacation there later this year but had to cancel those plans for various assorted reasons.......one of which is that life has generally become hellish in its own right. Oh well........stuff happens, doesn't it? Good and bad........take it as it comes.......avoid the bad if possible.....enjoy the good whenever.......and go to Hell some other time.......hehehe.

I would apologize to everyone for being on such a long hiatus away from writing on this blog.......but.........it is not like I really need to write on a blog at all. The only exception being that there are some people that seem to stay tuned and long for my next offerings......so for them, I DO apologize for not getting out of my funk and writing.

Alot of stuff has been going on..........way too much to write about. I had all sorts of plans for things to do and lately I have had trouble getting started on any one of them. It's a funk that I am in. It seems that when I am on the edge of starting something, something else rears it's ugly head and diverts my attention away.........hehehe.......same old, same old. Isn't it odd that it is always such that I can help others yet cannot seem to be able to help my own self? Oh well......it has been that way for many, many years now.

I toyed around with the idea to make videos for the blog......especially videos where I would offer up some of my classic parodies and phone calls about Jehovah's Witnesses. While I still harbor a spot in my brain to offer such in the future, here and there, I must say that whenever one messes with the devil and it's evil realm it has a way of fighting back and attacking you in assorted ways. It is risky business. No, I have no fear of the evil, I just like to avoid it if possible. So stay tuned.....you never know when I will get ticked enough to tackle the devil again here.

So Bin Laden is supposedly dead........hmmmmmm......okay........Have you noticed the mad scramble to decide who the new boogeyman is? For such a "leader" of "his people", Bin Laden lived in squalor. What happened to all of his money? Obviously he lived in alot of fear......and that's a good thing. I am sure we do not know all there is to know about it but he was hardly the terrorist leader that the powers that be made him out to be.

Hopefully, Obama is a one-termer. I didn't vote for him and surely won't vote for him this next election either. As a matter of fact, I like the idea that we all should vote for people that are not career politicians. For that reason, it looks like I will be voting for Donald Trump for President.........that is if he decides to run. If he doesn't.......well.......maybe Herman Cain.

By the way, I once wrote about the following picture, here on this blog......and I feel compelled to mention it again. The following picture is from an advertisement in 1979. For some reason, Pakistan Air thought it was a good idea to display the World Trade Center with the shadow of a jet airliner. Either this was an omen that nobody noticed or Pakistan has been trying to tell us all something.

Hmmmmmm..........Bin Laden hides in Pakistan for at least six years........hmmmm...........and the U.S. gives Pakistan how much aid money every year?.........hmmmmmm..........I think it is time to to cut off Pakistan. Pakistan is not our friend at all......apparently.

Let's put it this way........if your neighbor supports a person that sets fire to your barn, would you give him money every year to pay his rent?

George Bush actually said it right........you are either with us or against us. He tried to tell us that the harboring and financing of terrorist puts a country on our shit list. It is time to shit on Pakistan.

Kingdom Hall Phone Calls

For some reason it has been a somewhat rough few weeks. I should not complain.
One of my pals has suffered a stroke and is hospitalized..........he is doing pretty good.....considering. Times are getting tougher.......prices rising........lots of turmoil around the world......wars.....quakes.....unrest.......I had a wicked bout of the flu.......days where nothing seems to go right.............aggravation........weather...........need I say more?

I decided to have a little fun here by revisiting the past.

Several years ago I was involved in lots of religious discussions online........so much that I actually hosted a live chat room on the internet where I bantered back and forth with many people of all walks of life......and from all over the world. It was very interesting and I found it to be entertaining as well. It was a good way to waste time.

For some reason the primary focus was on the Jehovah's Witnesses and what they believe or do not believe. Everybody knows that they do the door-to-door thing........but I had discovered that they were also infiltrating the internet......preying on unsuspecting victims. I must say that while there were some very nice Witnesses online they were overshadowed by a high number of vicious venominous Jehovah's Witnesses and their so-called apologetics. The folks at the door would never dare to act as these did online. Nevertheless, there were many major debates over many specific beliefs and teachings. The world online was full of extremely knowledgeable people and students of ancient languages who each would offer up a pissing contest dissecting contexts and ancient words that have long been forgotten. It was amazing at how many self-professed experts in Koine Greek there were......and how scandalous and overbearing many of the participants became over a period of time.

Regarding Jehovah's Witnesses, the problem was that they were all admonished to beware of the internet and for all intents and purposes stay off of the internet and stay out of chat rooms and not mingle with potential "apostates". Of course, some of them would deny such orders just as some still deny that their organization touted that armageddon would occur in 1975. You know the deal.......they said things and yet they didn't say things.....but some heard what they said and believed it dearly. Today they hear things and go as far as to pretend they were never told or taught such.........lying as if they cornered the market on it. This kind of thing makes for alot of arguments......many of which get extremely heated.

A JW would say what he will online and if you asked a JW at your door about what the JW online said......well......they would say stuff like "you can't trust someone online" or "he's probably not in good standing" or "was disfellowshipped". I once asked a JW at my door if there are any real Jehovah's Witnesses online and I was told "No" that they stay away from it. Go figure.

Because of the dilemma between having JWs online and JWs at the door......I figured that I could come up with a way to let Jehovah's Witnesses expose themselves in a way that nobody would doubt the truth of the discussions. Often, I had been called all sorts of names....apostate.....evil.......the devil.......you name it, I have been called it online.......and I often got called a liar. I would get sent private emails where the message was "how come you know so much about us?". I never got an email that said "everything you say about us is wrong".....yet publically I would be castigated and derided for everything I said or did. There was the ultimate way around all of this. Instead of the online JWs attacking me personally and calling me a liar, they would have to attack their own bonafide JWs in the Kingdom Halls for revealing the truth about their beliefs.

It was easy for the online JWs to deny that they are taught to believe that Jesus is the fallen angel of the abyss...........if I said that's what they believe.........BUT they have a hard time denying their "brothers" who confirm such teachings with their own mouths. I merely provided the avenue for such to happem.

I started making phone calls to various Kingdom Hall across the United States and did it LIVE! in the chat room where everyone could hear. Needless to say......the online JWs were not very happy about it.

Fortunately, somebody managed to record some of these calls including calls by others. I held these recordings on the backburner for many years now and I decided that some of these calls and some of the assorted parodies that I created should be shared with the world.

I have always said regarding the Jehovah's Witnesses and the Watchtower Society that "Nothing does as much harm to them than their own words." And that goes for both the written word and the spoken word.

As of this date, I have no information that Jehovah's Witnesses believe anything contrary to what is confirmed on these videos........in other words.......if they have gotten any "new light" recently......hehehe.

In this video the phone call is regarding their "Memorial" which is the only day that they celebrate anything.........unfortunately......they celebrate the DEATH of Christ! Furthermore, you will hear that is it "not advisable" for anyone to partake of the symbolic flesh and blood of Christ which is passed around at the Memorial. These "emblems" are rejected by the Witnesses.

Getting Creative

I got bored and while fiddling around with my laptop computer I happened to come across the Windows Movie Maker..........so.......having never used it before, I decided to see how well it works.........and to see if I could come up with something a little creative and interesting.........well......maybe not interesting for most people but interesting for at least a few.

It was far easier than I had imagined and now my mind is coming up with all sorts of ideas. Give me some time and who knows what I can come up with.

Hmmmmm........maybe you have seen yourself before......somewhere.......or maybe it was last week..........could it be?..........nahhhh........it ain't you at all..........but sometimes you have to double-take.........dang..........close..........real close. I have had several different looks..........there were the years that went by where I could have passed for Charles Manson.......and the brief time I looked like an Arab (can't explain that one)...............and there was the time several years ago when I was in a bill payment center in line waiting to pay a bill and this woman in front of me turned around and looked at me and said "Craig!". I said "I am not Craig". She insisted that I was and said "Stop fooling around, I should know Craig when I see him". So I asked her "Who is this Craig supposed to be?"........She said "You should know.....you are my ex-husband!"........imagine that.......hmmmm.......so I responded with...."I guess we all know now WHY you ain't married to Craig anymore."......hehehe.....needless to say she had nothing more to say to me.

A week or two ago, I go online and start doing my daily routine of checking my favorite websites......boortz.com.......among others.......and I check the Drudge Report for some news and lo and behold!......I see the following:

Speaking of doppelgangers........it doesn't always have to be one human looking like another human..........it could be that a human being resembles a thing either animated or inanimate. Sometimes it can be that a human resembles an event or even an event that is about to happen........such as what is shown in the following photograph.

Five Days With Signtopia Expansion Pack 2.1

I have been busy lately. The past three weeks or so have been a bit hectic, yet wonderful. First, since my last post on the blog, I have taken a trip to Tennessee for my Mom's birthday....spent four days there, then six days at home, and then off to Texas for five days.

Time flies........and so did I. Me and Supernurse flew to Texas to see our youngest grandchild and hand deliver some Nascar toys for him to play with. Not that he really needs any more toys or cars........or trains......he loves trains........but lately he has been enthralled with race cars........Nascar........zoom......zoom. Apparently his mom and dad have been unable to find any Nascar cars in Leander or the surrounding areas so they put in a request to ole Signtopia to track some down in Baltimore..........which I did..........at Ollie's. Aside from that........there was no special event or occasion to make the trip except that me and Supernurse wanted to see the rugrat play indoor soccer......his first foray into the world of competition with other rugrats.

There is no way we are gonna pass up that.

On this trip, he was a bit smitten with me. On past visits he was all about "Mom-Mom".......this time "Pop-Pop" was his focus.

Of course.............that is.......when he wasn't focusing on his cars.........hehehe.

He's a great kid and he takes the cars very seriously.

As if he was in dire need of more stuff, Supernurse goes and buys a racetrack for his cars........needless to say he was thrilled. He particularly loves it when they crash.

Supernurse was very happy and that alone makes me very happy.

It doesn't seem all that long ago that my little Noodle Girl was little. I miss the days when my kids were little........time flies by so quickly........and now she gets to experience what me and Supernurse have experienced.........and we get to visit and spoil her kid.....hehehe.

I am lucky to just be there to see moments such as this.

I spent alot of time corrupting my grandson..............you know what I mean........."brrrrt"......."what was that?"..........."A frog on a motorcycle!"........and "BRRRRRRRT!".........that was a "Monkey on a Harley".......hehehe. I spent the majority of the time tickling him and making him laugh.

I never envisioned this when I was younger..........but somehow it is as if it was all planned.

We managed to get to see him at a soccer practice during the week..........which caused me to have flashbacks to when I was the indoor soccer coach for a bunch of monsters in White Marsh.......what was I thinking.......oh well........this time I am a spectator.

And spectate we did. His real soccer game was Saturday morning at 8am.......8AM!!!!!!!!!! at the YMCA............8AM!!!!!!!.........arrrgghhhh.........this is the time when I just start to have vivid nightmares while I snore away for five hours. Oh well............no rest for the wicked.

It was great watching him chase after the ball.............along with all of the other kids at the same time..............knowing that while he was running after the ball he was making race car sounds (in his mind he was racing). Even when he stopped for a drink......it was a "pit stop".

They don't bother with the score at this age level.............which is a good thing because his team was slaughtered. Still.......after all was said and done.........both teams were winners and celebrated as such. Expansion Pack 2.1 happens to love tunnels because of his fascination with trains......so when the parents line up to make a tunnel at the end of the game, he was the first in line for it............

So what does he do after he gets through the tunnel?

He runs around everybody and inserts himself at the end of the line and goes through the tunnel again! Smart kid.........hehehe.

So that was it.......after his game we drove to the airport in Austin and headed for home.

This is what Washington DC looks like from the airplane. Supernurse slept on the plane.........me?.............no sleep for me. I listened to a podcast of the Mark Levin show on my iPod and chowed down on some nasty crackers that the stewardesses pawn off on people.

Back to the grind............we get home and Supernurse got ready for work......that's right.......she had to work that evening in the ER.

City In My Head

Throughout my life there has always been a soundtrack..........background music as well as music in the foreground. I can safely say that the music that I somehow attached myself to has motivated me when I needed motivation, inspired me when I needed inspiration, comforted me when I needed to be comforted, and even expressed misery musically when I felt miserable. It has always been there for me. Maybe one day I will write about all of the assorted musicians and their output that affected me.......it is a wide range.........but for now, there is reason to write about an important portion of that wide range.......especially for me.

I had become a fan of Todd Rundgren a long time ago.......maybe 1971 or 72. You can say that I am a HUGE Toddhead. There was something that was special about his music both musically and lyrically that not only was a treat to my ears, but also grabbed at my inner core. I connected with it. It was all different from what other music I enjoyed and I suppose that really made it appealing for me........you know......being a non-conformist and the desire to march to the beat of a different drum. Who would know what music would come from Rundgren in the future.....I would have to wait and listen.

Rundgren was always on the cutting edge and there were subtle and not so subtle clues in his music and lyrics that would hint at the things to come from him. One of those prognostications was on his 1973 album "A Wizard A True Star". Said to be probably Rundgren's most critically acclaimed piece of work and probably his own personal favorite record, the music was all over the place and a complex work of art. It was a complete curve thrown at you if anyone was expecting this follow-up album to "Something/Anything". I remember one specific statement made on that album that caught my attention. It was in the short lyrics of "Le International Feel"................." Here we are again at the start of the end, But there's More. Wait another year and Utopia is here, and there's always more."

There it was.........and sure enough in 1974, "Todd Rundgren's Utopia" was released and my world changed.

Utopia........this was awesome.......way ahead of the rest of the world.......complex, different, my complete core was rattled by this music. I couldn't get enough of it. This was progressive rock at its finest. Top notch musicians........yes, the very same musicians that played on the A Wizard A True Star album. The backup band is now THE band of all bands.

This music was meant to be............well......it struck a nerve for me both musically and lyrically. There was something magical about it........maybe it wasn't magic at all........it was as if God was the producer of all of this.

Anyone that is a Toddhead or is familiar with Todd Rundgren is well aware that he is a restless spirit and you never fully know what to expect from him on his next album. He surely gets it right the first time then moves on to another genre or angle and achieves his personal goal and then moves on from there. This also applied to the concept and music of the band Utopia.

Todd Rundgren's Utopia only released two albums "Todd Rundgren's Utopia" and in 1975 "Another Live". For the Another Live record, drummer Kevin Ellman was replaced by John "Willie" Wilcox and Roger Powell was added to the lineup on keyboards. All the while, Todd was still recording his own solo albums and producing albums for other artists. The original Utopia had Hunt and Tony Sales (Soupy Sales sons) on bass and drums but they never recorded. The band then morphed into what is known as the "Mark II" version with Kevin Ellman on drums, Mark "Moogy" Klingman on keyboards, Ralph Shuckett on keyboards, John Siegler on bass, and Jean Yves "Frog" Labat on synthesizers and effects.

After the Another Live album, Todd Rundgren's Utopia became simply "Utopia" and the lineup was Todd on guitar, Roger Powell on keyboards, Willie Wilcox on drums and Kasim Sulton on bass. This lineup. known as "Mark III" would remain together until the mid-1980's. They got together for a reunion tour and album in 1992 and then two years ago Todd, Roger, and Kasim took the stage as the opening act for Todd's Wizard A True Star tour two years ago adding Prairie Prince on drums.

In recent years Todd manages to offer up some Utopia songs in his setlist but those songs are primarily from the Mark III version of Utopia. The only Mark II offering occasionally would be a taste of The Ikon or The Wheel. Those fans who have longed to see the Mark II Utopia have been resigned to the fact that they would never hear certains songs such as the Utopia Theme and The Ikon performed in its entirety as surely not performed by the original members of Utopia.

Never gonna happen................but...........

.........the planets must have aligned.............what could never happen again has happened. The Mark II version of Utopia took the stage for two nights at the Highline Ballroom in New York City on January 29th and 30th. "But there's always more!"..............Todd had said so himself back in the day.

Sadly, the reason for this reunion is that it was for the benefit of Moogy Klingman. It turns out that Moogy has terminal cancer and needs money to pay for alternative treatments. He has been through the chemo and radiation....the whole enchilada. The relationship between Moogy and Todd had become nil over the years........legal issues....etc. From the best of friends........"brothers".......to zilch. As much as Utopia was Todd's vision, it was also very much Moogy's as well. While Todd's career continued and Utopia continued........Moogy was relatively obscure and unnoticed in the music buisiness. In interviews with Moogy, you could tell that he somewhat resented no longer getting the attention that he once had and he has been quick to offer up details of the history of Utopia and how most of what we all know about Todd and Utopia would have never happened if not for Moogy. This is all very true.

Rundgren was performing at the Iridium club in NY with the Les Paul Trio.......a one-off show and Moogy showed up and watched the show..........well.......let me back up a little. Moogy wanted to get the guys together for a club date and play the old Utopia stuff.......just Moogy, John Siegler, Ralph Shuckett and Kevin Ellman to try to raise some money for cancer treatments. They all agreed........but there was one missing piece of the pie........Todd Rundgren. Moogy didn't think Todd would even speak to him, much less agree to reunite for a show. RundgrenRadio show host Doug Ford told Moogy to go see Todd at the Iridium and talk to him. Moogy went to the show and afterwards met up with Todd. Without question, one look at Moogy and you can tell that he has cancer......he does not look good. So imagine Moogy walking up to Todd and having a conversation............just imagine...........I am sure that Moogy was hesitant and not very optimistic that Todd would be accepting of him........BUT........Moogy says that Todd said "You were here for the show? Why didn't you come up on stage and join in?" Imagine that. It was at that moment that Moogy thought he had a chance to get Todd to join the rest of the guys one more time.

Moogy got his dream fulfilled.......Todd said "I'm in. When?"

I wish I could have gone to the show but it sold out rather quickly. There are YouTube videos and a Video On Demand available of the second show. Moogy came alive during the show......it was amazing. They guys picked right up where they left off some 35 years ago as if it was yesterday. As I watched the video of them playing the Utopia Theme........I kept filling up with emotion........both my own reasons and for Moogy................and then Todd sings "City in my head......" and the tears came from my eyes. And I know there had to be people in that audience that cried as I did. It was unbelievable.

Have you ever had lots of stuff on your mind and you want to speak out about it all yet you cannot seem to find a place to begin venting about it all?...............well........I have tons of things to write about and I have resisted venting about things here on the blog lately..........so I suppose I just have to start getting down to business today.

You would have to be a brain-dead moron not to be aware of the proverbial shit hitting the fan. No less than seven countries in the Middle East are imploding as I write this. People have hit the streets in protest for "Change".........hmmmmm.........that "change" crap again. Sometimes change can be good.......but not always. The protests in Egypt have gotten violent.............which is no surprise..........when chaos ensues somebody is gonna get hurt. As I watch the news reports, I try to look for the true story....the real deal........not much happens purely by accident. I was watching the news reports about how the protests were "peaceful"........hmmmm........somehow protesting anything shouldn't be described as a "peaceful" act..........not in my eyes.........and then all of the reporters were announcing that there were large groups of pro-Mubarek supporters that showed up and that they were "planted"....."paid to stir up trouble"........."police in civilian clothing".......blah blah blah. Before you know it.......the people start busting up the sidewalks and streets so they can have rocks to throw.........rock throwing seems to be standard in the Middle East........think of it as "stoning". In my mind I am thinking that they should be throwing their shoes at each other. Remember when someone tossed his shoes at President Bush?......it was said to be the most insulting thing to do to someone. Now I am thinking that tossing some rocks is not as insulting.......maybe in a physical sense.....but not in any other sense.

The violence has escalated and fires have been set and even the various reporters have been attacked..........it is chaotic. And now.....I watch the news reports stating that the authorities have blocked their video feed.......no pictures!.........hmmmmm.......no video feeds eh? This is interesting.........I just watched Anderson Cooper of CNN BROADCASTING from an "undisclosed location"..........go figure......I can see him.....I can see his "guests"......I can see the curtains behind him.........I can hear him.....he knows when to break for commercials.......the whole deal......so in y mind, something just is not right about this. I remember when the bombs started falling in Baghdad and CNN broadcast it live from a rooftop.......hmmmmmm. Perhaps the Egyptians have a new weapon that kills all video feeds in the air.

Furthermore,..........what is up with Anderson Cooper?.........How stupid is it to go strolling through any kind of protest as if by being a celebrity reporter for CNN that he is untouchable. He was practically asking for trouble..........this is the way I see it. I haven't seen shiny white hair like his since back in the day when country music was still country music. So Cooper gets beat up by the protesters.........I am not surprised at all.......not one bit. I do not condone violence........but what can you expect to happen? This was the equivalent of Edgar and Johnny Winter strolling through the Million Man March in Washington DC...........you gotta know they would stand out and get a whole lot of attention.

The bigger picture is that the tables are being set to fullfill prophecy. All of the predictions of the end of the world are worthless and have been so. None of them valid.......that is UNTIL the Middle East becomes a huge player. You might say that it has been a factor for many years......and I might agree......BUT.........if you believe the bible and trust it to be true, then nothing else on this planet matters......nothing.......except for the "Holy Land"........when it comes to armageddon and things of that sort it is the Middle East that is ground zero.

Of course nothing really happens overnight. There are tons of things yet that has to happen. For Christians, the big show will be when Christ shows back up and everybody sees Him. That day may well be coming sooner that any of us expects.......but still. other things have to happen first. This unstability in the Middle East is just the tip of the iceberg.

Feel free to comment and add your thought on the matter. Maybe you can tell me what you think is yet to happen before Christ returns. And if you don't believe in such things, then go ahead and explain it all to me the best you can.........hmmmm.......wait a minute..........I don't need to hear about the lizard people in spaceships.......hehehe.

oh.......and one more thing..........

the planets must have aligned or something. Why?.......because something happened just last weekend that NOBODY ever thought would happen again.

The End Is Near!...........Run For Your Lives!

There has been some strange things going on...........spooky......eerie......downright scary stuff. Surely most people have taken notice........unless........uh...er....well........I take that back......let me start over..................

You gotta be a moron if you haven't noticed that alot of strange unexplicable things have been happening all over the planet. Maybe some people just have "normalcy bias" as an excuse.......you know.......normalcy bias.......just look THAT one up. "Things can't be that bad."......and "Oh.....It happens all the time......It too shall pass." The problem is, while such words are somewhat comforting, and all of it is more comforting when any issue or event is pitifully small in the grand scheme of things, lately.........it appears that stuff is happening frequently and in massive doses.

First it was the honey bee........remember that? The honey bees were disappearing and nobody had any definative reason for it...........and now nobody seems to even mention it anymore. For me........it all began when I noticed that flies had replaced all of the bees that would routinely feast upon the bushes that were in the front of my house. I thought that was odd. About a year later, it was all over the news that the bees were vanishing. Surely this one odd thing is not enough to make you or I pack up our bags and head for the hills.

Lately, though.........other things have been happening all over the world. Masses of fish are showing up dead in rivers, lakes, and oceans.

Again.......I keep hearing "This is nothing new....it happens all the time".

Maybe it does happen all the time........but I don't seem to remember hearing about it with such frequency or scale. We didn't even see any pictures of any large scale fish kill resulting from that huge oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Why is that? One would think that there would have been. You would think there would have been a shrimp and crab shortage too.....but I have not seen any indication of it. I seriously did not trust any of the sensationalized reports about that oil spill......it was not anywhere near as bad as they made it seem.

And now its birds............birds everywhere have been just dropping right out of the sky in mid-flight.......for no apparent reason. "Lightning strike"......."fireworks scared them"........."blunt force trauma"........."no disease found in autopsy........just blunt force trauma".........are you kidding me?

Sure.......birds die.....as do fish.................one or two at a time maybe............

........but this is getting to be biblical in proportions if you know what I mean.

"Blunt force trauma"..........hmmm.........thousands of birds at one time?.........huh?

Something is seriously going on, folks..............but don't worry..........so they say. I get asked why I think this is happening and the only bird related disaster situation that I can recall was when the birds were suicidal in a movie I saw when I was a kid.

The good news is that there is a huge difference. The birds in Alfred Hitchcock's movie The Birds, not only were suicidal.......but they were attacking everybody. For now.......birds are just dropping dead........no indication of them being suicidal.........and so far, I am not aware of mass attacks of humans by birds.............well......there have been a handful of reports about some birds attacking people.......but not in any large numbers.
So what do I think about all of this?

I could joke around and just suggest that Hitchcock never died and that he has been filming a 3-D sequel of his classic film. Sadly, there are people on this planet that would believe that.

I suppose it all comes down to a multiple choice question. The challenge for you is to pick your answer for your own self.

Ho! Ho! Ho!.......I've been good.......The question is Have YOU been good?

So here we are.....it is yet another Christmas Eve.........and many things have changed over the years..........I am thinking that in the grand scheme of things, out best days are all behind us. Yeah, I know........that is not a very cheerful thing........but the times indicate these things and the outlook is not very good......more crime......violence...higher taxes....lack of jobs.....higher grocery bills.........you know the deal. On the bright side......none of that stuff makes too much of a difference if you stand in defiance and resist....and in spite of it all, and do the best that you can to have a good time and celebrate the holidays......as I will be doing.

I really miss when my kids were little..........Christmas.........it was a special time for me. It was always about the kids. They are all grown up now........the girls have their own children......the boys, well...........their time will come...........and Christmas in the Signtopia home is different these days.

Don't get me wrong.........Christmas is still special for us..........sure, we still decorate........BUT.........

..........we wait until Princess Fartknocker and........

her brother, the Mayor of Simpleton, can be here to help us decorate the tree. Everything is good........and while Christmas has changed alot for me and Supernurse.....it is still about kids......albeit GRANDkids......hehehe....er....hohoho!

Crabs..................................crabs?

I have been calculating and planning and thinking for quite some time about making a few extra bucks here and there via the internet. One of those plans include crabs. I paint them, decoupage them........and hopefully very soon, will be selling them online. Everything is in the preliminary stage and at this point I am a dime short and a day late to start now.......it is Christmas already for crying out loud. Nonetheless, I have plans for the new year.

I have all sorts of ideas for crabs.......

.......some are obvious..........

..........most of my ideas are not available anywhere else......

and the ones that are.....well..........MY crabs will be a bit different.

We are goona be nailed with a snowstorm in the mid-Atlantic on Christmas Day...........then it was we MIGHT get some flurries........then it was "snow showers"........."it is taking a more southerly track"......and then they said it could stall right off the coast........and it also COULD just zip right out to sea. Hmmmmmmmmmmm......now it says "30% CHANCE of snow"......which means there is a 70% chance that it WON'T!

oh well...............

Pictures and words........that's all I have to show everyone and hopefully convince you that the Grand Palladium Resort in Mexico is the one of the best, if not THE best, place to vacation. Forget Ocean City, MD...........forget Florida.......you need to experience some paradise as I have. So what does it cost you?.......a ten day all-inclusive package including airfare will cost you about what you would spend on a weekend in Atlantic City........imagine that. This is one of the reasons that me and Supernurse go to places such as this.........value. Who doesn't want more bang for your buck?

You have seen the Corona beer commercials.........and yes......it is just like that.

As I write this........I wish I was there right now.........again and again..........

If you look real hard you can see how calm and beautiful the Caribbean water is.

Vacationers of all ages, sizes, and shapes.............from all over the world...........and everyone is comfortable with their own self.

One day......maybe I will get to see the turtles...........instead of the empty nests.

Guided Segway tours of the resort......including the beach!

I have this thing that I do when on vacation and there happens to be someone serenading you.......as in this case.......while we were eating..........I make a request...........Malaguena Salerosa.......so far, I have never been told "Sorry....can't do that". These guys were great......and they did this just for me and Supernurse:

The food was great. Something for everyone. If you can't find something that you like on any given day........well.......there is something wrong with you and you need counseling. Princess Fartknocker.......as skinny as she is........had no trouble filling up her plate and her stomach.

I noticed that the orange juice tasted better here than the orange juice back home. I found out that it is because they use REAL sugar to sweeten things in Mexico. In the USA, our government encourages the use of corn products to sweeten things.....and the result is that actual sugar is too expensive to use. It is not that way in Mexico.......even the sodas taste better.

You want fancy?...........you can have fancy.

Riviera Maya Vacation - Part Nine

I may look a bit rough.......but.......I have several excuses.

Excuse #1: I drank more than my share of cerveza.
Excuse #2: I also drank Supernurse's share of cerveza. (actually, she drank stuff like margaritas)
Excuse#3: Earlier that day I tried to eat some chili......whoa!....I though I was on fire....hot!.....resulting in my downing of more cerveza.
Excuse#4: I am on vacation with Supernurse........did you think that I would be sleeping every night?
Excuse#5: I was waterlogged from being in the water all day.....and a bit toasted from the sun.
Excuse#6: I am Signtopia......of course I look a bit rough.....hehehe.

So here we go with the ninth installment of my report about the Riviera Maya vacation at the Grand Palladium Resort in Mexico. There's tons of entertainment throughout the day and at night, the stage shows kick into gear........if you like such things......and I do.......

The resort has a staff of entertainers called "People Of Palladium".........and they perform shows every night.......a different show every night.........music, dancing, musicals (albeit lip-synched), comedy, acrobatics, costumes and more costumes..........wow! This group does it all.......and they are very good at what they do.

In the hotel lobby, there are bulletin boards with information about the staff and the schedule for the shows.

The theater is quite large and is open-air.

One of the shows began with a couple of performers doing a ballet dance routine and things were going well when all of a sudden they tripped and the guy dropped the girl and she indicated that she could not continue the show........they carried her offstage.......and then one of the staff came out onstage and asked if there was a doctor in the audience........oh no.....this is not good.......he goes backstage and then comes out again after a couple of minutes and announces that the show will continue because they have someone to fill in for the injured female dancer. Fantastic!.........
............but...........
.........they have got to be kidding...........THIS is the fill-in?..........

It didn't take long to figure out that it was all pre-planned..........the joke was on us.......the injury was faked........but very convincing.......

"Okay pal........hurry up with the picture".........."Okay Mayan dude....just don't cut my penis off in celebration of joy or anything like that 'cause I read where they really, really did that stuff to people back in the day.......you know......the Mel Gibson movie?"

Hehehehe........just kidding........oh.......and yet more entertainment in the lobby......each night.....a different performer...........solo performances, bands..................oh and this one particular band only played one night.......their name is Quarzo and they are fantastic. Rock and roll as it should be played.......loud and proud and proper. I was stunned at how good a singer Mauricio is.......and the rest of the band......well.......I cannot remember their names but any one of them could hold their own anywhere at anytime in anyplace in any big name band. We are talking Led Zeppelin, Van Halen.....ACDC.......yes indeedy!

They should be on stage.............great guys too........here's a short video of Quarzo performing some Pearl Jam.......I apologize for the sound........the video was taken with my Kodak camera and the loud music overwhelms the teeny tiny microphone embedded in it.

Riviera Maya Vacation - Part Eight

Here's the eighth post about our recent vacation at the Grand Palladium Resort in Mexico on the Mayan Riviera. My guess, at this point, is that of the people who have been following this blog and reading everything as I post it, half are most likely bored at this stage and are hoping that I get this over with. All I can say to that would be..........hang in there.....stick with it.....you might learn something from all of this. To the others, well.........there happens to be some things that I have to share with everyone.....regardless......obligatory things.......if you catch my drift. It has been difficult lately to write on the blog.......lot's of stuff happening.....lot's of stuff to do......places to go.....yet I must finish writing about this vacation in Mexico.........and write about my grandchildren......one of which just so happens to be Princess Fartknocker.......hehehe..........who for one entire week, was a star on stage every night......go figure.

This is Princess Fartknocker and her ukelele.............and Diana, who was one of the staff of the Kid's Club. She was very nice........very helpful......and Fartknocker was smitten with her. One of the great things about the Grand Palladium Resort is that they have the Kid's Club. The Kid's Club has a host of scheduled activities for the kids.........one of which is a nightly performance of various sorts on stage. Fartknocker thought she was in heaven!

For some reason, Princess Fartknocker was chosen to participate in every show presented onstage..........and I am talking "lead" roles here........imagine that!

They did a "Grease" show..........a "circus/magic" show...........karaoke.........and "High School Musical"......where the kids would lipsynch their singing parts. Fartknocker took every role seriously...............

They danced.......and danced.

Busy girls.....especially when they are the star of the show.......has to take a break and enjoy a drink. Fartknocker had the best time and it was wonderful for me to be there and see it.

They posed for pictures after every show.

One evening, they were doing a karaoke thing on stage........Fartknocker did a karaoke song.......and then......she wanted to perform a song acapella......with no music.......she wanted to sing a song that they did not have the music for.........they let her do it!........and she was wonderful!...........she has guts!

They really liked Fartknocker..............during the day, when we would be walking to breakfast, people would see her and tell her that they really enjoyed her performance the previous night.......this made me very proud.

She sang a duet with one of the other girls......

......and she even sang with her Mommy!

She took everything serious........she acted out her roles.

She even participated in the choreography.

My granddaughter.......the STAR!

She was not shy one bit!

This is right up her alley.........she was meant for this stuff.

Costumes and costume changes........

Poppop was in the first row........hehehe.

The Kid's Club is wonderful.

Oh........I almost forgot to mention the pinata........she even hit the stage to have a few wacks at it.

Princess Fartknocker and her ukelele............maybe one day she will be famous..........but at least for one week this past year she was off to a good start......

Riviera Maya Vacation - Part Seven

Yep.......it is all about the beach........and I absolutely love this beach. I actually have nothing to complain about. All of the people were friendly. Everything was rather well kept and taken care of. The fish were friendly........hehehe. Many things to look at and focus on...........very relaxing atmosphere, yet fun. Very therapeutic and not hectic at all. Ocean City, MD is not like this. Then again, Ocean City is not on the Riviera Maya. The water is not cold here and it is very calm.
I was on this beach each and every day right after breakfast and stayed there until almost dinnertime. We hardly spent any time in the pools.......yet the pools are very nice. I suppose I would need a few more days for that..........oh well.........it IS all about the beach.

Riviera Maya Vacation - Part Six

For me, it's all about the beach.......nothing else really matters........but there are many perks and bonuses that comes with a stay at the Grand Palladium Resort in Mexico. Aside from what you would expect at an all-inclusive, there are loads of little things that make your trip worthwhile. One of those things is that you will encounter assorted wildlife. This place also happens to be a nature preserve. Flora and fauna.........animals.........lot's of animals. No cows or dogs or horses or lions.........but crocodiles, raccoons, lizards, monkeys, birds, and..............

........coati! Coati are sort of like a cross between a monkey and a raccoon, as you can see. And they just so happen to enjoy begging for food. Each day we would encounter them.....they are very cute......and as far as I could tell, not violent except when they are mad at each other for some reason. Princess Fartknocker, my granddaughter, was anxious to feed them.......that is until one of them put their paws on her bare leg.......she felt the sharp claws and quickly got away from them......she didn't like that.

Awww.......the poor little thing is hungry...........this is hard to resist.

Notice how far away Princess Fartknocker is from the coati.....hehehe.

Her brother, the Mayor Of Simpleton, fed them some bread......no problem.

The majority of animals seem to hide pretty well amongst the trees and bushes and fend for themselves when it comes to food. The coati have it all figured out.........all they have to do is look cute and beg and they can get all sorts of food.

Riviera Maya Vacation - Part Five

I know....I know.......I know.........I have been slacking........I still haven't finished writing about the trip to Mexico and here we are with Christmas fast approaching. I have been somewhat busy doing stuff like painting those crab shells that I have accumulated this past year. I will write about that at another time.........yes, they will be for sale.......and yes, they will not be anything near as bad as you might have seen on the internet.....hehehe........but I am not kidding.

Okay, back to the vacation. The Grand Palladium Resort in Mexico has a church on the premises. Imagine that............suppose you have reached your limit of basking in the sun and getting so soaked that your fingers and toes look like wrinkled raisins or prunes......ugggh.....and let's say you are having a religious moment.....no, not THAT kind of religious moment!.......but the kind where you just want to meditate and pray and thank God that you are vacationing at this phenomenal place........well.........here is where you go:

It is a very small church nestled in a somewhat secluded spot.......from what I have observed both times that I have been there it seems as if the grand majority of guests either are too busy with other things or they just haven't ventured to this particular spot of the complex. Me?......I just so happened to see it every day..........not because I am some religious freak that has to get "religious" every hour on the hour......no......I had to walk past the church to get to the lobby area.....not to mention the Sports Bar.
The name is odd.........can you figure out what it says?.............I couldn't.......It is all Greek to me, which is bad because it is Spanish. The senora word was obvious.......everything else.....I had no clue. So what does a dude from Baltimore do?.......naturally, you ask a bartender......hehehe.....so I asked a bartender in the Sports Bar..........well he didn't speak very good English but from what I could get out of him the name of the church translates into something like "Our Lady Of The Snow"! Snow?.....yeah.........hmmm......this could actually make sense......what with all of that blue agave right next to the church.........could be a tequila thing......the more tequila....the more snow.

Needless to say, this place is beautiful........as it should be.

I hope you enjoyed the photos of the church........now get busy and start praying for me so that I can go there again some day in the future............hehehe.........just kidding........even though it is not a bad idea.

One of the experiences that everybody has at this resort is absolutely awesome.........when you enter the waters of the Caribbean, the fish come and say hello.........well........maybe they ain't saying that.......maybe they want to eat the hairs off of your legs...........or maybe they are just hungry..........so many people bring some bread or rolls and feed the fish..........they seem to love and appreciate it and they will follow you around wherever you go as long as you keep giving them some bread crumbs. Riviera Maya Vacation - Part Four

Have I mentioned that I miss this place already?.............When not on the beach or eating.....hehehe......we would lounge around in the hotel lobby.......uh....there are several lobbies.....we mostly hung out in our lobby, the Colonial Lobby. Live music and lots of drinks.....and watching the people go by...........its a nice way to end the day every day.

I forgot a few of the towel sculptures in the previous post......so here they are.......can you guess what they are?

Last year, vendors would set up in the resort lobby once or twice a week...........This year, they were set up just about every other day.........which is a good thing except most of the vendors never seem to remember that just saw you before and asked you to buy something. Nobody likes to be pressured into buying anything............trust me, these vendors are tame in comparison to the vendors on the beach in Jamaica........arrgghhh!.

One particular vendor hand painted beach scenes on ceramic tiles..................I said "hand" painted..............

...........his work is phenomenal.............did I buy one?.......NO. I generally do not buy something that I might be able to do my own self..............but this guy was great to speak with and watch.......he was amazingly fast.

He hardly ever used a brush.........he mostly used his fingers and a rag.

All sorts of souvenirs lined the breezeways that connected the buffet and restaurants to the lobby area.

The was another painter who did things a bit different.....he uses spray paint and dries his work with flames.

I didn't buy one of these either............but I did buy a souvenir which I will show you in a future post.

To the average person I suppose this kind of art is pretty darned good........and it is........but for me, I just do not get all that excited by spray painted art. Sure, it is done well, but I have gone through many years of sign painting where I would incorporate the use of spray paints for certain visual effects on lettering.....................oh well.

Somewhere on that table is the souvenir that I bought........yes I negotiated the price :) ........and I did wait until the night before we left for home.

Supernurse wanted a margarita glass..........we bought one.......and she proceeded to break the darn thing as soon as we sat down in the lobby for some drinks........go figure. I felt bad about it but she refused my offer to get her another one because she said she would "break that one too".

Speaking of artwork, there is quite a bit of artwork to take notice of at this resort..........No, not like a museum..........but you can look up and see some impressive architecture.

Okay........so back to the room............more towel art........

Sadly, there were pictures on the wall in the room.........this is one of them. Now imagine yourself.......laying in your bed..........when you first lay down and seeing this when you first wake up............Yikes!..............No matter where you moved in the room, it seemed that the eyes followed you............not only that, but this woman had what appeared to be a very thin line beard!...............and the two birds looked as if they had lice and some other avian disease! Yikes!

Oh well..........there you go.........I managed to come up with something to complain about.....hehehe.

Riviera Maya Vacation - Part Three

When in Mexico and it happens to be Sunday......well......of course you want to wear your football team hat and jersey........and I did. I watched the game between the Patriots and the Ravens on the big screen in the Sports bar. There were some Patriots fans and some Steelers fans.......and at least one Bears fan and one pain in the ass Packers fan. The Packers fan somehow managed to get the bartender to change the channel on the big screen to the Packers game........which the majority of people did NOT want to see.........it was halftime and I wasn't gonna stand for that. I went to the bartender and had him change it back to the Ravens game. Four tv screens and one big screen projection tv..........the game to see should be on the big screen......right? Well.......the Packers fan wasn't very happy that the bartender changed it back to the Ravens game and he got really vocal about it. Let's just say that "we had words".......and I went to my seat which was in front of where the Packers fan was sitting..........and I did the appropriate thing..........I turned my cap around and wore it so that the Packers fan had to look at the Ravens logo......hehehe. The Ravens ended up losing the game.......but it was a good game..........the Patriots fans in the Sports Bar were very happy........the Steelers fans?.....well........who cares about them?...hehehe.

When you are not on the beach or in one of the pools, or not in the Sports Bar, you need to walk around and take notice and absorb some of the really cool and unusual things to see while at the Grand Palladium resort. For example, at the front entrance of the Colonial Lobby is a waterfall located in a small lake which is loaded with ducks, swans, and flamingos.

Also......near the buffet restaurant and the shops, there is a fenced off area that contains crocodiles.

I don't know why but flamingos always stand on one leg.

And they always peck at themselves.

There is one thing that I would bet that most visitors might not take notice of while here.

The crop of blue agave located next to the church.......yes......the church....located in an area behind the Sports Bar.

Blue agave.............you know what blue agave is?

.......well.........it just so happens that TEQUILA is made from blue agave.

Riviera Maya Vacation Part - Two

First off, I apologize for taking so long to post stuff about the vacation. I have more than a few reasons..........uh....err.....excuses......I have been busy tending to other things and when I wasn't busy tending to other things I was in a funk. I suppose the downside to taking a vacation and going somewhere as wonderful as the Grand Palladium resort in Mexico is that it all comes to an end and you must go home. Baltimore is not paradise..........but there is no place like home..........hmmm........home IS where the heart is. Rather than ramble on about that I will cut to the chase and get posting about that vacation.........after all.........maybe it helps to get out of the funk............we shall see.........

As before, every day was spent on the beach.......we would wake up, go to breakfast, and hit the beach. We would leave our room a mess and return to the room to find everything cleaned up and taken care of. Each day we were greeted by some form of towel art on the bed.

I really liked the rooms at the Grand Palladium.......plenty of space.

I have written before about the outdoors.......the beautiful grounds......the landscaping.....the water embedded into the design..........

.........the seemingly endless maze of covered wooden walkways throughout the property.

Notice how clean?

These walkways are great............keeps you in the shade when the sun is out.......and keeps you dry when it rains..........and they lead to every place you need to get to in the resort.

The only downside.....for me......is that it hurts to walk so much......for me, that is...........but I managed to beat a path all over the place..........I do not walk THAT much at home........but I consider this part of the vacation a cardio workout........a natural stress test treadmill.........and it sure beats the stress test at the cardiology clinic.

Riviera Maya Vacation Again - Part One

I really look forward to vacationing somewhere........anywhere.....in the Caribbean area. Last year, we went to the Grand Palladium Resort on the Riviera Maya in Mexico......it was late October. We liked the Grand Palladium so much that we had to go back there this year. This time around we had a larger group of people with us (relatives and friends)..........you have to share good experiences. Last year a hurricane tried to spoil the party and skirted a bit close to the resort. No.....it didn't decimate the resort while we were there.........but it did shove some wind and rain on our parade for a few days. This year we vacationed a couple weeks earlier.

We arrived at the Grand Palladium Resort this year and after one day we get word that a hurricane had formed just off the coast of the Riviera Maya. It didn't take long for people to be mentioning it to us at every turn.......obviously some of the vacationers were a bit nervous about it.........but I kept the mindset that until I was able to assess the situation that I was not gonna be dealing with any fear on this vacation.........especially unnecessary fear. The warnings and reports on the tv in the room just did not get into much detail and I never got a good view of any radar either. Fortunately, me and Supernurse both brought our laptops with us and I was able to access decent information about the hurricane via Wi-Fi in the hotel lobby. What I was able to see was that while the hurricane was indeed just off the coast from us (where it formed) it was expected to head north-northeast towards Cozumel and Cancun. As I looked to the overall radar for the entire Eastern Caribbean area, I could see that there was a huge clockwork circulation which would be steering the hurricane........steering it in such a way that it would not hit the coast where we were. This was a bit of relief to us all.........yet we all know by now that hurricanes can be unpredictable.

Phone calls started to happen when people back home got word of the hurricane near us. I understand that they would be a bit worried. My sister calls wanting to know if we are okay.........keep in mind that it was sunny, warm, and I was swimming when she was calling........I told her that everything was good and not to worry. She asked how would she know if we are okay...........I told her that if she doesn't hear from me that everything is fine and that the only reason I would call would be to say goodbye.....hehehe. Seriously.......everything was fine for us and I had confidence that the storm would take the course that I figured (which it did).

Needless to say.........the staff at the resort had taken some precautions and signs of preparation were apparent. The red flag on the flagpole.........the sandbags............

............and staff toting plywood around..............all while everyone was enjoying the beach.

Me?...............I was enjoying the beach......yes......even though the sky looked a bit menacing towards the north-northwest.

And even though the hurricane was out there..........right here everybody was basking in the sun and enjoying the very warm and calm water.

I could stand there in the water all day...........and THAT is pretty much what I did.........every day......for ten days straight! Of course I did get out of the water for food and drink. As the sun went down we would go back to our room to get ready for dinner. Folks.....I cannot describe how wonderful this beach is...........for me......it is therapeutic......sort of a religious experience......a cleansing of my spirit........and I was very, very happy to be there.

Ole Signtopia is gonna be busy this Fall. For starters, me and Supernurse are heading off to Texas again for ten days to visit our daughter. Then, in October, about two weeks later, we will be heading to Mexico for vacation.............oh yeah right..........that's right......Signtopia is always on vacation.

Somehow, someway...........in the midst of all of this..........or maybe immediately after.........I have to get busy painting Maryland Blue Crab shells. I have about 130 of them ready for paint. Then, I need to get myself in gear and market them on the internet. I have some great ideas for the shells.

Here are a few of my thoughts today:

Finally, Baltimore has someone other than Pat Jessamy to prosecute criminals. For 15 years, Jessamy has somehow managed to keep her job as States Attorney for Baltimore City.........and Baltimore City has somehow managed to keep itself crime ridden for over the past 15 years. Was Jessamy to blame?.......maybe.......maybe not........but we all want thugs to be held accountable for their actions. Jessamy said, after her defeat, "I will be MOVING FORWARD"..........go figure!

I am still getting comments to the blog entry entitled "Jehovah's Witnesses Should Read This" which I had written over about two years ago.. I find it amazing that so many people are interested in whether or not Venus and Serena Williams are members of that cult group or not. Can you say "Moths to a flame?"

Ravens lost to the Bengals.............Joe Flacco was lethargic. Every time the camera showed a close-up of him, he looked like he was dazed and confused and working in a zone other than a football field. Gotta blame the coaches on this loss. Flacco should have sat out the fourth quarter...........he really wasn't there anyway.

Jehovah's Witnesses Should Watch This

In this day and age most people want everything to be fast.............cars, food........you name it.......even videos. Maybe it is that many people just do not have a lot of time on their hands and need to hurry to get to the point. But there are some things that just cannot be done in a flash. Jehovah's Witnesses do not become Jehovah's Witnesses in a flash. It does not happen overnite. The video below is not one of those fast two or three minute videos.

If you are a Jehovah's Witness you should take ten minutes of your time and watch this video. If you seriously care to learn anything at all or are willing to try to understand those who leave the cult that you are a part of, then watch the video.

If you are not a Jehovah's Witness but you have family members or maybe a friend who happens to be one, then you too should watch this video.........and maybe even share it with them.

For those who are all too familiar with the subject of this video, you might finally say "Gee.....finally there is someone who gets it"

What A Trip! - Part Six

That's me in the mirror.......taking the picture of Supernurse.

I apologize for the blogging funk I have been in. I am not a writer at all and I am easily distracted from doing the things I need to do.............heck, I am even easily distracted from the stuff I WANT to do also.............so here is the last installment about our whirlwind Fourth Of July road trip.

Maybe you wondered if we visited any restaurants while in Tennessee......well......we did indeed. Somehow........someway.......my sister Rhoda Morgenstern manages to find some unusual places for us to go............she also had a knack for finding those places that just so happen to be the favorites of some big name stars as well.

We went to the Loveless Motel........uh....er.......Cafe.

Huh?........a motel?.........to eat?.......you got to be kidding......right?

Well..........it sure doesn't look very inviting........but it happens to be very famous and popular around these parts. There is quite a story about the history of this place and just about everybody who is anybody has eaten here. I have a relative who once stayed here when it was still a motel.......and even then it was legendary. Every star you can imagine......country stars, rock stars......movie stars........politicians.......television stars......all seem to find their way to the Loveless Cafe.

The walls are covered with autographed photos of the famous people who have dined here. Some came just for the biscuits that they serve.

Even Miley Cyrus has been here.

And now WE have been there. I didn't see any celebrities while we were there but supposedly financial guru Dave Ramsey was there in another room. The food was great but I didn't eat anything that I could actually say was the best I had ever had. I CAN say that it was like home cooking except this home was once a motel.

We also went to a gas station/grocery/restaurant place called the Henpeck Market.
I suppose you can imagine how Cracker Barrel started by visiting this kind of place. Apparently the Henpeck Market is also rather popular and famous. I ordered the catfish platter.......and yeah it was good.

In a way it was like sitting in front of the milk and soda cooler at the 7-11...........but here, they have the honor system in place..........you want a drink with your food?.....pick something out of the cooler......drink it.....throw the empty away......and then head to the cashier and tell them what you had. Imagine trying to do THAT in a 7-11 store.

There was also an upstairs shop above what you see in this photo.

Another place we had a meal was the Catfish Campus in Columbia...............I love catfish!

Well........that's about it.........sure I could write about other things we did........but I hope this gives you at least a little idea of what my road trip was like...........otherwise......maybe you should go along with me next time.......or maybe even take a trip like this yourselves.

What A Trip! - Part Five

We had a great Fourth Of July during our visit to Tennessee...........lately, I had been spending Independence Day by myself............quietly while everyone else in the immediate family had things to do and places to go. It was nice to spend this one with a large contingency of family and that makes it special. I did manage to provide some sis-boom-bah in the form of my own copycat version of Carrabbas fantastic minestrone soup.........and everyone loved it. I am not so sure though, what they all thought about the residual effect of the soup. Let's put it this way........it cleanses your soul a few hours later.

We started the festivities by having everybody meet up for "Franklin On The Fourth" in downtown Franklin, Tennessee. Lot's of stuff going on.........and it was hot as hell........but there were some remedies around. It did not appear as crowded as I was expecting, but it was a good sized crowd that showed up. Franklin would later have a fireworks display just outside of town.........we chose to not attend that and do our own fireworks at my sister's house.

Franklin..........think Mayberry........think the Back to the Future movie........think of the area in DisneyWorld once you get past the turnstiles...........it's a different world and it doesn't resemble anything that I am familiar with back home in Baltimore.............EVERYBODY that you encounter in Franklin.........happy........kind......polite......helpful......it is just sickening.....hehehe.

And they have a sense of humor too............so our gang fit in rather nicely.

There's those people with the sunglasses....again..........from the Arrington Vineyards to Franklin on the Fourth..........they must be "somebody".

There was a stage set up in the town square (circle)...........and we ain't talkin' one of those portable pull along trailers that we would see set up for the band at the Fullerton, Maryland fireworks display. These folks do it right.

This is Kelsey Muse...........and she did a great job performing. She may become a big star one day soon................keep an eye out for her.

She is still young and has plenty of time to develop.........but I can tell you this......she is far better than you might think........very talented.

Speaking of talent.........my sister EBCBEBR is also very talented. She is a multi-instruMentalist.........which means that she can squint her eyes and guess which instrument makes which sound...........hehehehe.

I was just kidding........sort of.........my sister EBCBEBR is a member of the Williamson County Municipal Band...............and she plays the flute. That's her right there sitting in the front row. Actually, my sister not only plays the flute.......she is a classically trained pianist. She also plays drums.....guitar.......clarinet.....violin.......and God knows what else. I wish I was half as skilled as she is...........but what should I expect?........Mom was as careful as she could be when I was small and she only dropped me on my head three or four times.....or maybe it was six or seven times.

I really enjoyed getting to hear my baby sister perform in the band.......that was a first for me and I am glad to have been there to do that.

While my sister was onstage.......the next act was hanging around next to the stage area. See the woman in the white pants standing behind the guy who apparently thought I was taking HIS picture?............well.........her name is Whitney Layne. She was talking to her fans and signing autographs and selling merchandise. You can find out more about her at www.Whitneylayne.com.

She was very nice and very willing to talk to everyone and pose for a picture.

My niece Pocahontas chatted with her................Princess Fartknocker talked to her too and bought her CD.

The crowd got bigger as time passed............Country Star Lorrie Morgan would be performing after Whitney Layne.................

Everyone waited as the municipal band left the stage and the Whitney Layne band did their sound check.

Then it was show time!

She was very good.

She even acknowledged the "little red-headed girl" that she had met and asked why they hadn't come up by the stage and danced.

We did not stay for the whole show though..........but thanks to Whitney Layne......that certain little red-headed girl will go home with a memory she will probably never forget.

I found some video on You Tube about Franklin On The Fourth. I recommend that you watch it and hear some of each performer and take a tour of the sights and sounds of a great day in Tennessee..........just like being there.

What A Trip! - Part Four

During our stay in Tennessee it was decided that we would go have a picnic at Arrington Vineyards which was not all that far from Spring Hill......just down the road a bit.....maybe 15 minutes away.......good idea. Having picnics at vineyards is not something I had ever done before.......and as I always say...."nothing ventured, nothing gained".........apparently many people have picnics at vineyards and somehow I have never been part of such a loop. This was a new experience for me and I like to think that I never know what to expect when venturing down paths that I had never taken before. That's me in the picture with Kix Brooks of Brooks and Dunn fame..........if you don't know of them.......well.....let's just say that they are to country music what Hall & Oates were to the rest of the world........huge. More on that later.
Arrington Vineyards is quite nice and actually somewhat secluded........well......it is off the beaten path. There were quite a few people there.......much to my surprise.....very busy......but not overcrowded. I never realized that people pack a picnic and head to a vineyard on a Friday night.

The majority of folks planted themselves up on the hill to be near the live music and to be close to the wine tasting inside the building. That's Princess Fartknocker running up that hill.

As you can see....this is a very nice place.

The view of the entire area was awesome and at one point I spotted a fire in the distance.

We were having a great time and yet someone somewhere else was having a miserable time.

Princess Fartknocker chowed down on some food.

Get this gang together and they pack quite a lunch...........hehehe.........notice the bag of Utz Crab Chips?.........I brought those all the way from Maryland.

We managed to get a picnic table right up in the middle of the crowd.

This is a very nice facility and what is great is the price.......no charge!

Just bring your own stuff and have a seat or toss a blanket and sit there and enjoy the live music. All for free.........oh......and you get to look at all of the "beautiful people" while you are at it. I just so happened to have brought along Supernurse..........I hope all those other folks enjoyed looking at her........hehehe.

My sister EBCBEBR, my sister Rhoda Morgenstern, and my niece Hannah Wyoming......all looking a bit incognito with the sunglasses.

There's one of those "beautiful people" that I mentioned. No picnic for her......I suspect she came there to be seen and to see who else she might see that is looking to be seen. In my mind, I imagined that only the snooty folks would go to a vineyard for wine tasting and a picnic......but I am wrong........there are all sorts of folks that do this. Young and old, rich and poor. good looking and downright ugly.
It's all about the wine........which, of course they want you to taste and hopefully buy a bottle or two. I can't say I blame them.........the wines from Arrington are phenominal. Bravo!

None of us really were all that interested in anything or anyone other than our own gang of wine-tasters. This was something that we never get to do all together.....this was a special deal for us.

My niece Hannah Wyoming and my daughter Imelda Marcos..........and you just have to know that the "beautiful people" were wondering "Who are THESE beautiful people?"

What I came to discover was that Arrington Vineyards is partly owned by Kix Brooks of Brooks & Dunn. And sure enough, Kix Brooks showed up and greeted his visitors, posed for pictures, and signed autographs. No, he didn't perform. He was very approachable and accommodating.

One of the staff in the building said that it was a rare thing for Kix Brooks to come there on a Friday night............this night was our lucky night.

My sister EBCBEBR spoke with him and explained how his place would be much better if they only had steamed crabs available.......hehehe.......so he just hung his head in shame.....hehehe.

This dude has so much money that he probably could have steamed crabs shipped in each weekend night and it not even put a dent in his wallet........then again he would also have to cough up for some Natty Boh.......hehe.

Needless to say, most of our entourage did the meet and greet with Kix Brooks and posed for a photo. Thanks Kix!

The Mayor of Simpleton opted to listen to mp3s instead of the milquetoasty trio performing on the stage. I can't blame him either........who wants to hear a Christmas tune......What Child Is This?.......in Holiday Inn jazz form? Not him.....not me......but apparently other folks do.

Signtopia Expansion Pack 2.1 decided to actually wake up from his nap..........no....he was not very happy.........but he got over it.

Princess Fartknocker danced with her daddy James Bond..........who, by the way, proudly wore his Tennessee Titans jersey...............I should have wore my Ravens jersey.........the folks there would have loved that.

It all came to an end too quickly but a great time was had by all.......maybe we will do it again sometime in the future.

For some reason, my daughter Ms Moneypenny got the idea that we should all make hand painted martini glasses.......so she went out and bought the paints and the glasses and proceeded to get almost everyone involved. Initially, she wanted ME to do the painting..........I declined. I thought there would be more significance to the entire process if each person would paint one their own selves.

All in all the martini glasses turned out pretty good and made for a nice keepsake from the trip.

What A Trip! - Part Three

I love going on vacation. I am ready at a moment's notice. I really look forward to it and wish that every day was a vacation. For some that know me, they might say that I have the life of Riley and that I already have every day as a vacation day. In a way, that is true. For quite some time I have had the opportunity to do whatever I wish, within reason, in any time frame that I choose, and however I choose to do it. That's been a blessing and a curse though.

Let me pick up where I left off..............After staying a few days in Leander, Texas........we loaded up the van..........me, Supernurse, Noodle, Expansion Pack 2.1, Mayor Of Simpleton, and Princess Fartknocker.............and we hit the road headed for Tennessee for the Fourth Of July weekend. I would have liked to have left a bit sooner because Texas was getting some outer bands of the hurricane that was beginning to pound the Texas-Mexico border. All in all, it was a minor event and not that big of a deal.......it just meant that I would have to encounter some heavy downpours at some point early in our journey........and we were gonna be driving at night and overnight. I had precious cargo and I am very careful and aware of that cargo.

With each day of life, as mundane as it often is, you never really know what to expect......things happen......surprises are had.....and life is a rollercoaster. My rollercoaster days are behind me.....my health has ensured that.......and as harrowing a rollercoaster ride would be for me, I found myself smack dab on a ride that I will never forget.

We were on the Interstate, just south of Waco......headed north........it was almost dark, the sun was setting to the west........and I could see some dark clouds ahead. It was part of one of those rain bands from the hurricane system............hopefully, it would just be a brief drive through it and then clear sailing the rest of the way..............and actually, that is exactly how it was.........very brief........maybe 15 minutes of driving through it.

Those 15 minutes now seem as if it was hours..................let me explain.
Heavy downpours of rain........visibilty not good at all........every vehicle has their flashers on........top speed maybe 20-25 mph..............but everything is coasting along. Lots of lightning too. At the time, I would have like to have taken the next exit and waited it out.......but I couldn't see any exits...........so I kept moving along..............and the rain died down quite a bit........we continued on...........whew!..........we got through it.........so traffic speed goes up to about 55 mph.........I am in the fast lane so that I can get past some slower tractor trailers and right as I get past them, I see a police car entering from a ramp and merging into traffic. Naturally, everybody slows down in fear of a ticket...........I stay at 55 mph.........but I slow down a little and move over to the right lane because I can see that the police car had moved over to the fast lane and was pacing behind me. No problem.

Just ahead there was a small rise in the roadway...........maybe like a bridge or overpass.......could have been just an elevation of some sort...........I slowed down........the road was wet, it was still raining, but not very hard, and I could not see what was over that hill........so I am cautious...........I look in the rear view mirror and I see the trucks.........they seemed a fair distance back from us..................I reach the top of the hump in the road and................traffic is stopped!!!!!!

There was nowhere for me to go...............I didn't know that I could bring the van to a stop in time.........the tractor trailer in front of us was not moving anywhere and there was nowhere to go to the left......I aimed for the shoulder of the road.......but there was only about five feet between the guardrail and the truck.......no room for us to fit............In a flash, I am trying to stop our van without losing control......and yet I keep looking into the rear view mirror at the truck behind me.
That truck is moving side to side and getting closer and closer. It was a big pickup truck pulling a boat on a trailer........and the driver..........is trying his darndest to stop from hitting us.........if I had somewhere to go I would have.....all I could do was bring the van to a stop to within an inch of the tractor trailer's right rear corner with the guardrail next to us. It was this moment.......this one moment that I was still looking back begging the pickup truck driver, as if he could hear me......"Put the hammer down!.......Please STOP.....PLEASE STOP!!!!!".

Somehow.....someway.........we weren't all killed. We would have been completely crushed..........my precious cargo and me.....gone in a flash.We all could hear the tires trying to grab the roadway.......his front grill looked as if it was gonna come through the rear window of the van..................the sound was like a monster..............and a miracle happened.............he stopped! Jesus God he stopped!...............everything stopped. My daughter Noodle said "Good job Daddy!"

Maybe it was the cop that caused the traffic behind me to slow down enough that enable them to stop.........maybe .............maybe because I slowed enough myself to be able to stop in time.........maybe .............everything and everybody was firing on all cylinders enough to be able to deal with it..........maybe...............either way.........it had to be divine intervention.

Needless to say...........I looked at everyone in the van.............just the look in their eyes spoke volumes....................and I managed to get the van around that tractor trailer.......apparently it could not move......the brakes must have locked up..............about 500 feet ahead we could see that there was an accident that caused the backup..............we continued up the highway for another 15 minutes or so and then I pulled into a gas station/convenience store............whoa.......I had to take a breather..........and everyone had to piss really bad............surprisingly nobody had shit themselves.

Stuff like this is a game changer.............one moment and everything comes into its proper perspective.

We finally made it to Tennessee.................and my mom was very happy to have all of us there. She had no idea what we had to go through to get there. Maybe we told her and it just didn't register.................you cannot really know unless you experience it.

Speaking of experiencing things..............My sister EBCBEBR puts all sorts of photographs on her dining room walls..........that way everybody can look at them when they visit..........I love that.........and look.......Princess Fartknocker posed for a picture right next to a picture of her mommy!

Yep..........her mommy.......my daughter Annie Warbucks.

It was great to see everyone..........and, of course, it was also great to have a family jam session.
Me?......I mess around with the guitar a bit............

My sister has a set of drums...........the Mayor of Simpleton did pretty good......I was surprised.

My niece's son Jimi Skynyrd has gotten quite good on guitar.........if he keeps at it he might just be able to be in a band.

Everybody got into the act............singing and playing.........

.........and texting.

My brother-in-law Bobert Titanfan...........he is so good playing keyboards that he can do it while he sleeps...........no kidding..........he was asleep when I shot this picture.

Bobert's brother Tombert is a drummer..........but lately he honing his guitar prowess by playing guitar in a band with Bobert. He is alot of fun to be around and is a really good person.........and extemely talented.

So what did we all play? Smoke On The Water..........some Cars stuff..........Beatles.......Sweet Home Alabama........etc etc.

What A Trip - Part 2

Okay.......so we had finally arrived at my daughter Noodle's home in Leander, Texas.

When we got there, Princess Fartknocker and her brother Joe Flacco had already been there for a few days. The plan was that they would visit their other grandparents, who just so happen to live just outside of Austin, and then spend some time at Noodle's and then me and Supernurse would show up, stay a couple of days with them there and then load everybody up into the van and head to Spring Hill, Tennessee to celebrate the Fourth Of July with my mom and sisters and nieces and nephews...........almost a complete family reunion.........my sons would not be able to make it and Noodle's husband had to work. My other daughter Ms Moneypenny and her husband James Bond would be there in Tennessee by the time we would get there.

It is always wonderful to visit Noodle. Me and Supernurse miss her dearly and do what we can to visit as often as we can.

...........and there he is...........Signtopia Expansion Pack 2.1.........he is growing fast and he is amazingly smart too.............then again, he DOES have certain genetics....hehehe.

They have come a long way and more and more things have been done to or added to their humble abode. They added the porch, bought a new grill......added some planters, a picnic table, some Adirondack chairs..............

........and went further with the landscaping. It looks great.........they have done a good job.

Supernurse got her Sonic fix and I got my H.E.B. fix.......and after a few days it was time to hit the road again.

What A Trip!

Holy Moly...........what a long drive down the road it was. Through Maryland..........and all the way down I-81 in Virginia to Tennessee. All the way across I-40 through Tennessee. Through Memphis into Arkansas. Through Arkansas....Little Rock.......and Texarkana. Then down through Texas......Dallas......Waco......and finally Leander.

That was alot of driving........and way more than I would want to do these days. Somehow, I felt good and had no problem driving 12 hours at a clip. We drove from Baltimore to just north of Memphis .......about 12-13 hours.....where we stopped for the night. The roads were good, traffic was moving well and everything was good.

The next morning we headed through Memphis and into Arkansas. Arrrgggghhh........we stopped at a welcome center for a break and was told by the host there that we would be just outside of Little Rock about lunchtime...........so she recommended that we stop at a place called Brown's. She said "Brown's has great food and is the best buffet in Arkansas". Okay......sounds good.....we will do that...........................hmmm........I should stop being so easily convinced of things.

Let's just say that if Brown's is the best food buffet in Arkansas......then there will never be any need to ever stop anywhere again while driving through that State. After eating at Brown's, I now have no desire to ever stop in Arkansas again......except for gasoline. I would like to think that I know a bit about smorgasbords............I managed one in Merritt Island, Florida.....many moons ago...........and this "buffet" was disgusting...........then again........perhaps the folks in Arkansas think it is a step up from everything else in Arkansas. Well......the food "was" edible.......I didn't cough it all up later...........the food line was not particularly the most sanitary operation.............and the people.....locals and tourists acted like they never saw food before. What a big mistake this was........we couldn't wait to get back on the road. Here is just an observation for you..............apparently there is alot of inbreeding going on in Arkansas. West Virginia ain't got nuthin' on Arkansas........this is inbreeding to the tenth power.

Arkansas spawned two Governors...............Bill Clinton and Mike Huckabee...........both ran for President of the US............I remember hearing that Clinton left the Arkansas governor's residence in such a shambles that when Huckabee was elected he had to stay in a trailer on the property while everything was fixed back up. I believe it. This stop in Arkansas has made quite an impression on me.........and really puts certain stuff into perspective. Today, if you say Clinton.......or even Hilary........I will have to think "Arkansas"!...............Arrrrrgghhh!

The drive through Texas was good and went smoothly. Dallas was quite a sight.......very beautiful skyline...........the only somewhat unnerving moment came was when we stopped for gas, south of Dallas......maybe near Killeen........the tank was about empty and I couldn't keep going down the road to look for a place that appeared populated.........so I headed onto an off ramp towards a lone gas sign on a pole that had a banner attatched that said "Now Open!".

The gas station was the only thing in the area...........except for the truck trailer sitting on the parking lot. The trailer had a wooden deck and steps!.........it was converted to some sort of church type operation. Holy evangelism! No need to go there.........I pumped my gas, went inside to pay, and encountered the female clerk at the register..........and she looked like she had some kind of horns growing on her forehead. This was like an Outer Limits episode.......or maybe I had stepped into the Twilight Zone. The woman was very nice. Supernurse hadn't seen anything like that before.........all she could say to me after we got back into our van was "She had nice makeup on those things sticking out of her head". I figured that there were alot of crops in that area......farmland.........and just maybe the woman suffered from contamination from crop dusting or some other kind of environmental hazard.

After a few more hours, finally, we arrived in Leander at our daughter Noodle's home.

Time For Another Trip

I'll be a bit busy for the next two weeks..........I'll be driving from Maryland to Texas, then to Tennessee, and then back home. I have made lots of audio cds to listen to during the drive......that will be good. I plan on taking my time and I fully expect a minimal amount of stress. As for the Fourth Of July.............I will be making a batch of minestrone........very similar to Carrabbas.............and after everybody consumes that, the fireworks should begin within an hour or two.......hehehe. It will be great to get away from Baltimore, the tv, the computer.........ahhhhhh.......I am looking forward to this.

So what will I be doing? I will be visiting family that I do not see often enough........and spending lots of time with my mom. Yes I will take lots of pictures and post some of them when I get back.

Meanwhile, I have some stuff I would like to write about but for some reason I am in a rut and haven't been able to find the gumption to do it. I will, however, find my gumption after the trip and start getting busy with writing and maybe even find my artistic self and kick that into gear as well. Truth be told, sometimes it is tough dealing with depression..........yes, even ole Signtopia......even though he has so much wonderfulness in his life.....gets depressed. Most folks take a prescription for such a thing.......me?........no.........I would like to think that I deal with it my own way......however that is. Don't be alarmed though.........I think that everybody gets depressed at times and I simply have my share of it. A nice vacation usually snaps me out of it....hehehe.

Here is something to rattle your minds while I am away from the blogosphere...............

As you surely must know, all sorts of spacecraft has been sent to Mars. Lots of pictures and there has even been craft that has landed there. Some believe that life exists....in some form.....elsewhere other than on earth.........and there never seems to be any proof...........but just maybe...........maybe..........maybe.......we are gonna find out something we might not wanna know...........maybe we will be glad to know............time will tell, but for now, there are some peculiar things that are worthy of note. Consider the following video about Mars and how this dude shows you how to "see" what you would not ordinarily see. Personally, I was stunned by this and I don't really know what to think about it.......... will leave it up to you to see for yourself.

A Little Of Dis & A Little Of Dat

Here we go with some of my random thoughts...........

...........not that these thoughts have any worth........but sometimes a man has to wonder about stuff.

I remember seeing old films of people striking oil and the oil would be spewing all over the place and people were covered with it and it was a huge mess..............we were told that this was a good thing.............somebody struck it rich!.........remember the Beverly Hillbillies?........Ole Jed Clampett struck oil and moved to Bev-er-ly.........Hills that is.....swimming pools........movie stars!

Oil is supposedly scarce these days and we are said to be dependent on foreign oil. As you know by now, somebody hit the motherlode while drilling for oil in the Gulf of Mexico, off the coast of Louisiana...........hmmmm.....Clampett territory? Well.......You would think people would be all excited about it.......but no. Supposedly, we are still being led to believe that oil is scarce and that it is hard to find........huh?............if it is so scarce and such a limited supply in this part of the planet, then why are we hearing reports where each day the amount spewing out of the floor of the Gulf is increasing in huge numbers and I also hear reports that it appears that this "leak" could go on for months and months......even years and years! This doesn't all add up to me.

And where has Al Gore been during all of this?.........hehehehe......

Today, the boogeyman is BP..........but the real boogeyman sits in Washington DC. Those that made laws restricting all new oil drilling to be so far off the coast that disasters such as this are hard to remedy. The even bigger problem with the oil disaster is that hurricane season starts about now.......this is not a good thing. The Gulf gets its fair share of tropical storms and the problem with this is that you have to remember where these storms get their water from. My guess is that a hurricane might suck up that oily water and dump it from the coastline to miles and miles inland..............think its a mess now?.......we ain't seen nuthin' yet. Stay Tuned!

I am a Baltimore Orioles fan.........and the team absolutely sucks this year.............but I am still a fan............well........there is always hope for next year. It boggles my mind that hitting has been a problem for the past 12 years or so............and we have changed managers, players, stadium attendants, hot dog vendors, and Boog Powell's t-shirts two or three times a year.............but one thing remains constant in the dugout............Terry Crowley the Orioles hitting coach..........Crowley somehow has kept his job all of these years. I do not understand the logic in this.

Another thing I do not understand is..........

..........Former Orioles pitcher and now part of the MASN broadcast team. Notice how he always looks slanted. On camera, he always leans to the side as he speaks..........maybe it his hairstyle........the hair is to heavy on one side. I think it is also the cause for Palmer's continual flubbing and stuttering of players names. I have one other pet peeve regarding Jim Palmer.........he has an obvious and apparent crush on Derek Jeter. The Orioles could be playing against the San Francisco Giants and at least twice during the broadcast he will mention Derek Jeter who plays for the Yankees. I could understand referencing Jeter regarding statistics, but when the broadcast goes like this: "Wigginton got all of that one and as he heads towards second base, Jeter..................."...................Jeter?.........C'mon Jim..........this ain't New York and Jeter has nothing to do with this game. Maybe Palmer is just getting a bit senile.

In a few months, Obama's hair will look like Nelson Mandela's hair...........don't laugh, he no longer dyes it.........it is getting grayer and grayer.

Ever see this guy?.............it's Boston Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis. He's the one whose batting stance looks like a Wii character in the batters box. Everytime I see Youkilis, whose real name, by the way, is Weiner..............that's right, he is a Jewish ballplayer.............everytime I see Youkilis, I am thinking........

Twins separated at birth?

What is it with politicians that they think that if they roll up their sleeves for an appearance in public and for a photo op, that you and I will think they are "working hard". I see this kind of stuff and it just assures me that the end of the world is upon us all. Furthermore, if you or I go to the coast or the beach on the Gulf Coast to get to the bottom of what is happening, we would not walk along that beach eating snowcones..........are you kidding me?.........do you see how hard they are "working"...........how do we know they are "working"?........the snowcones?........NO!.......it is the rolled up sleeves!.........It boggles my mind that would even wear a long sleeved shirt there. I have been to Louisiana at this time of year..........it ain't cold. You can't tell me they couldn't afford a short-sleeved shirt or two. How about a t-shirt and some cut-off jean shorts?

Back to the Orioles again............this is their catcher Matt Wieters............the alleged future superstar...........who can't seem to hit his way out of a paper bag. Think pop-outs and double plays. Whenever I see Wieters face on tv, I am reminded of this guy........

............that's right..........Joran van der Sloot........the soon to be deceased murderer.

Things are just terrible.........ain't it?

Maybe Wieters should grow a beard and start looking like Kevin Youkilis.
